Our mission is to provide opportunities and healthcare for the community of Munoz.
MISSION & HISTORY.
In 2002, while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, Nicole Lafrance and one of her three daughters experienced firsthand the shocking poverty just a short walking distance from the beautiful resort of Playa Dorada complex. That particular trip left its mark on Nicole and on her third trip early in 2004 she resolved to do more than just visit. She embarked on a journey that continues to this day.
Joined by a dynamic team, Nicole founded Beyond The River, a non-profit organisation that focuses on community empowerment by promoting and facilitating education. Since 2004, Nicole worked closely with Pastor Ricardo Batista of the community of Muñoz just 15 minutes outside the Playa Dorada resort complex. The goal: providing education opportunities and basic health care.
Many children have benefitted from this partnership. Today we have two young adults in their second year of university and many younger ones are inspired and motivated by their achievements. We are endeavouring to facilitate the way to higher learning for as many of the younger students as possible.
In December 2015, sadly, Pastor Ricardo passed away after a long battle with cancer. You can read more on the life of this exceptional man and his family. Beyond The River continues its partnership with the community of Muñoz and Luz por la Vida, a non-profit organization founded by Pastor Ricardo in 2011.
